Second Step Curriculum

The Second Step program is designed to help children thrive and be more successful in school, ultimately setting them up with the skills to be thoughtful and productive adults.  The Social Emotional Learning works to add another dimension to education improving communication, cooperation, and decision making. Through four units (Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, and Problem Solving) several 21st century skills are targeted, modeled, and practiced throughout the year.

  • Empathy
  • Emotion Management
  • Emotion Recognition
  • Problem Solving
  • Impulse Control
  • Calming Down
  • Communication
  • Assertiveness

Second step lessons take place for 30 minutes in every classroom on a bi-weekly schedule for the entirety of the school year.
